New Villa Expands Guest Options

In November 2011 we added an offsite stunning vacation villa to our collection of rooms and suites. Located across the Intracoastal Waterway from the hotel in Fort Lauderdale’s prestigious Seven Isles, the totally renovated single story villa offers three bedrooms, three bathrooms in an unexpected park like setting. This offering expands The Pillars’ ability to meet the needs of families or groups of friends who want a more intimate or extended luxury experience. And, since The Pillars’ Villa is an extension of The Pillars Hotel and Small Luxury Hotels of the World, guests can expect the same outstanding amenities, creative interior design and superb service.

Handsome planters create a serene welcoming natural corridor to the front door. The private pool and spa surrounded by a marble patio at the rear of the house offer opportunities for outdoor dining, sunbathing and swimming, while an eighty-five foot dock enhances the perfect tropical setting for a perfect getaway.

The design of the house captures multiple views of the pool, waterway and the striking park like landscaping and drive. The meticulous details and high-end finishes throughout the house complement the spectacular night lighting which creates a magic deserving of the villa. Architect Ron Trebbi points out that his work is intended to capture the best of contemporary and traditional styles.

The common areas in the house feature a large family room, a poolside dining/living area and an ultra-modern eat-in kitchen. The bedrooms include two oversized master suites and a standard guestroom. Two of these bedrooms have direct access to the pool through a set of double French doors. The master bedrooms include modern bathrooms featuring elegant fixtures and marble walls and floors. Both masters have ample seating areas with exceptionally large TV’s and all three rooms feature an IPhone charger docking stations with speakers. Click here to see a video of the property.

The Pillars Hotel voted the top hotel in Florida by readers of Conde Nast Traveler magazine

The November 2012 Conde Nast Traveler, one of the world’s most respected travel magazines, published the results of its prestigious 25th annual Readers’ Choice Awards. The Pillars Hotel was selected as the number one hotel in Florida receiving an overall score of 93.9 out of 100.

This year a record 46,476 readers participated in this unique survey known for its global reach and qualified traveler opinions. Readers gave The Pillars marks of over 90 out of a 100 in all 5 areas. For service the hotel earned a score of 95.7, for rooms 91.3, for design 91.3, for food 90.9 and a remarkable 100 points for location.

A History as Charming as the Property Itself

In 1939, prominent businessman Arthur Ogle engaged Wahl Snyder of Miami to design what was to become one of the largest and most elegant family residences at the time in Fort Lauderdale. Snyder was a well known and respected architect for designs in South Florida and the Caribbean. Some of Snyder’s most famous home designs include Amalia Bacardi’s residence near Havana, Cuba and a Bahamian home for actors Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy. One of Snyder’s most prestigious commissions was to design the building that houses the school of architecture at the University of Miami.

The next most significant development was when the property was purchased by Nick Jenin in 1948. Jenin was co-owner of the once famous Raceway Park, a ¼ mile stock car track near Chicago and a close friend of Preston Tucker, the innovative creator of the advanced Tucker automobile. Movie buffs will remember Jeff Bridges and Martin Landau in the film Tucker: The Man and his Dreams. Jenin was such a friend and enthusiast of Tucker’s car that he purchased over ten Tuckers. He then developed a traveling display called “The Fabulous Tuckers” where he exhibited the cars and memorabilia at fairgrounds and car shows around the country for nearly 10 years

From the 1950’s to its rebirth as a luxury hotel in 1999, The Pillars hosted loyal snowbirds looking to escape from the colder northern weather. Few changes were made to the property until it was purchased by Landry Trebbi Investments Corp. in 1998. At that time the new owner closed the hotel for almost a year to undertake a “back to the bare walls” renovation. Between 1999, and now operating on the simple business concept that “if you are not going forward you are going backward”, the property has undergone a number of significant improvements intended to increase guest satisfaction.
